Jobs: Theme Activities for the Classroom
-
Brainstorm a list of all the jobs your students can name. Focus on your school setting as part of your brainstorming session. How many jobs can your students identify that are set just in your school community -- teachers, principal, secretaries, custodians, cafeteria workers, school nurse, librarian, etc.
-
Host a career day in your class and invite parents to come talk to the students about the jobs they do. Invite school personnel to talk about their careers. Be sure to include at least one stay-at-home parent as one of the presenters.
-
What jobs do your students do at home? In the classroom? Make a list of these important tasks and talk about how students feel when they do a good job. What happens to the smooth operation of family or classroom life when they skip a chore?
-
Plumbers use special tools to fix pipes and drains. Other jobs require tools and equipment as well. Use the Tools of the Trade worksheet to help your curious learners match a profession with the tools or equipment used by each.
-
Curious George’s toys went down the bathtub drain. On the Drain Maze worksheet, your students can help George’s toys find their way through the plumbing system and back to George.
