Snacks: Theme Activities for the Classroom
Brainstorm a list of all the fruits and vegetables the students can name. Talk about favorites and least favorites in terms of taste. Discuss why fruits and vegetables are healthier choices than chips and cookies. Download the Treats from Trees worksheet.
After talking with your students about healthy snacks, create a healthy snack book for your class, made up of pictures each child has created and colored of nutritious snack choices, such as fruit, vegetables, whole wheat crackers, yogurt, etc. Use a hole punch and string to bind the book together.
As a class, plant quick-to-sprout seeds with your curious learners. Purchase bean or radish seeds at your local hardware store, grocery store, or nursery. Plant as directed in a container filled with potting soil and water gently as needed. Place your pot in a sunny location. Children are often more encouraged to try new vegetables and foods that they have had a hand in growing!
